Defects not showing up in Iteration Status App

Issue/Introduction

A user has defects that are not showing up on the Iteration Status App/Page. All 4 defects are unscheduled, when they change the filter to unscheduled, the defects do not show up in the list.  Why are the defects not showing up?

Resolution

The defects in this case are assigned to a User Story.  It is the parent item that determines the visibility of its children.  When filtering on the parent user story the defects will display beneath it regardless of any other iteration that the defects are assigned or even if they are unscheduled.
