Issue/Introduction

OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation has provided an improved method to create the OPSLOG Archive dataset. We had some questions about what needs to be done after moving to the new archive system.

I have switched to the new OPS/MVS OPSLOG Archiving System, is there anything that I must delete or change?

Environment

OPS/MVS z/OS

Resolution

You can delete the following items after switching to the new OPS/MVS OPSLOG Archive System:

The Global8 prefix variables can be deleted as they are no longer used by the new archive system. (Reference OPSVIEW option 4.8: Global Prefix: GLOBAL8.Z9_ARCHIVE )

GLOBAL8.Z9_ARCHIVE.

  • BASENAME
  • GDGMODEL
  • PRIMARY
  • SECONDARY
  • SMS
  • STORCLAS
  • VOLSER

GLOBAL8.ASOZ9_APPLDSNS

The OPSLOG switch rule to archive a switched from OPSLOG is now initiated internally by an Address Space ID (asid) create of the value for the parameter ArchiveProc.

  •  All of the archive rule members listed below are no longer needed and should be disabled to avoid duplicate actions within the OPSLOG archive process:
    • ARCHMSG
    • ARCHMSG2
    • ARCHMSG3

The ARCHSECA member handles all of the security rule code in one rule.

  • All of the security rule members listed below are no longer needed and should be disabled:
    • ARCHSECG
    • ARCHSECP
    • ARCHSEC8

The above variables and rules, no longer needed/used, are from Customizing OPSLOG Archive (Releases 12.1 and Earlier) documentation instructions.
