Not able to delete errored process instances

Issue/Introduction

We are not able to delete some of the process instances which errored out. We tried to cancel but not able to. Please help us to know how they can be deleted. We have sub-processes getting called from master process.
 
Error Message: BPM-0542: An error occurred when executing subprocess 'your subprocess name' in step action 'your step Action'. Please check the subprocess for the specific error message

Resolution

There was a delay in status getting updated to Aborted, after that user was able to delete instances.
