Issue/Introduction

In Identity Manager, the "Unlock Accounts" task is configured as a nested/hidden task by design. Attempting to force the task to appear in the UI by modifying its menu visibility settings or attempting to run it directly results in a java.lang.NullPointerException.

This article outlines the correct method for unlocking endpoint accounts.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Cause

The "Unlock Accounts" task is a dependent, nested task and is not intended to be executed directly from the Identity Manager UI. The NullPointerException occurs because the task expects parameters passed from the parent task ("Modify User's Endpoint Accounts"), which are missing when the task is run in isolation.

Resolution

To unlock endpoint accounts, use the supported "Modify User's Endpoint Accounts" task:

  1. Navigate to the Task: Log in to the Identity Manager UI and navigate to Users > Manage Users > Modify User's Endpoint Accounts.
  2. Select the User: Search for the user and select the appropriate account.
  3. Identify Endpoint: Search for the required endpoint or select "ALL."
  4. Unlock the Account: From the search results, select the account and click Unlock.

Customization Note: If your organization requires a simplified unlock interface, copy the "Modify User's Endpoint Accounts" task and customize it to display only the "Unlock" button.
