What do the various parameters available on the "Create Data Warehouse Trend" job mean?

Environment

CA PPM 15.3 and above.

Resolution

There are four parameters available, and explanations for each of them, is as below:

1. Trend Type:
  • All Trend Tables: Processes all the trending dimension and fact tables
  • Summary Trend Tables: Processes all the dimension tables and the summary fact tables
  • Monthly Trend Tables: Processes all the dimension tables and the monthly fact tables
  • Fiscal Trend Tables: Processes all the dimension tables and the fiscal fact tables

2. Trend Period
  • All Periods: Processes all periods for the current year.  For a summary fact table, it simply stores the summary record (Same for all 4 options).  For monthly facts, there are 12 fact records stored, 1 for each period in the current year
  • Previous Period: Creates the trend and stores the data in the previous period. Example: If today is Sept 1, there would be 1 period worth of data for monthly that would be stored for August
  • Current Period: Creates the trend and stores the data in the current period. Example: If today is Sept 1, there would be 1 period worth of data for monthly that would be stored for September
  • Next Period: Creates the trend and stores the data in the next period. Example: If today is Sept 1, there would be 1 period worth of data for monthly that would be stored for October

3. Trend Year
  • Determines what year to run the trend for
  • If left blank, defaults to the current year
  • If the Trend Period is set to Previous Period, Current Period, or Next Period, then the Trend Year is overwritten

4. Trend Name
  • The Trend Name can be manually entered if the user wants a more descriptive name
  • If left blank and the Trend Type is set to All Trend Tables or Summary Trend Tables, then the name defaults to the current date:hidden ID.  Example: 2017-01-15:5000000
  • If left blank and the Trend Type is set to Monthly Trend Tables or Fiscal Trend Tables, then the name defaults to the 1st day of the period:hidden ID.  Example: 2017-01-01:5000000
