Issue/Introduction

This article addresses the "DBUTIL_RESULT = ERROR from db-util" message encountered during Identity Governance installation. This error indicates a conflict between the installation mode and the existing database state.

Identity Governance 14.5

Cause

This error occurs when the installer is triggered in "install" (fresh) mode while the target database already exists and contains tables. The installer expects a clean environment and fails when it detects that the database is already initialized.

Resolution

1. Verify the status of the target database.
2. If the database contains required data, rerun the installer using the "update" mode (command line argument -up).
3. If the database does not contain required data, drop the existing database or clear the existing tables to allow for a fresh installation.
4. Re-initiate the installation process after ensuring the database is in the state compatible with your chosen installation mode.
