Why does message
XCOMN0017I Transfer expired and was removed from queue. 
appear after message
XCOMN0011I Transfer ended; nnnnn records .... sent ...?

Resolution

When a transfer is finished, message
XCOMN0011I Transfer ended; nnnnn records .... sent ... 
is written into the xcom.log. 
Later, the transfer is deleted from the Queue and message
XCOMN0017I Transfer expired and was removed from queue. 
is written into the log
The time difference between these two messages is specified in parameter EXPIRATION_TIME in xcom.glb. This parameter specifies the time in seconds a transfer is held in the queue.

Additional Information

Message XCOMN0017I is not an Error Message, it is an informational message, that is indicated by the trailing 'I'. Error messages in XCOM are trained by an 'E'.
