Issue/Introduction

In Clarity, users may observe inconsistent behavior regarding Estimate to Complete (ETC) values. For some projects, ETCs are automatically populated for resources, whereas in other projects, the ETCs default to zero (0).

This article addresses how to consistently maintain ETC values at zero for project resources.

Environment

All supported versions

Cause

The automatic population of ETCs is directly tied to the resource's allocation percentage on the project. To prevent the system from automatically assigning an ETC to a task, the resource's allocation must be set to 0% during the specific timeframe of the task assignment.

Furthermore, if the "Allow Effort Task Creation" setting is enabled within Clarity PPM, ETCs will be generated automatically upon adding resources to a project, provided their allocation is greater than 0%. For additional details regarding Effort Tasks and ETC calculation methodologies, please refer to KB Article 53503.

Resolution

To prevent the automatic assignment of ETCs to a resource, verify that the user's project allocation is set to 0% before assigning the resource to a task. If your configuration utilizes effort tasks, you must also set the default resource allocation to 0%.

  • For step-by-step instructions on modifying the default allocation to 0% for all newly added project resources, please reference KB Article 35674.
  • If ETCs have already been automatically applied to a resource and need to be removed, this adjustment must be performed manually at the task assignment level.
