Issue/Introduction

SMSPDSE1 address space abend S0F4-18 in IBM Load module IGWBBMF1 CSECT IGWBIEX1 at +0B1A when script HFSPDSE is executed.

Environment

z/OS 2.3, CA Vantage r14.0

Resolution

DFSMSdfp provides two address spaces for processing PDSEs: SMSPDSE and SMSPDSE1.
The SMSPDSE address space is a non-restartable address space for PDSE data sets that are in the LNKLST concatenation.
SMSPDSE1 is a a restartable address space that provides connections to and processes requests for those PDSEs that are not part of the LNKLST concatenation.
See details in section "PDSE Address Spaces" at link -
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSLTBW_2.1.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r1.idad400/pdseas.htm

Obviously, the SMSPDSE1 address space gets involved when the HFSPDSE script is executed to collect information about PDSE datasets
and the SMSPDSE1 address abends with S0F4-18 in IBM Load module IGWBBMF1 CSECT IGWBIEX1 at +0B1A:
This indicates that this an IBM problem caused while address space SMSPDSE1 processed an invalid PDSE.
The customer followed up with IBM and IBM determined the bad PDSE that was scanned by the Vantage HFSPDSE script.
