Issue/Introduction

This Knowledge Base article will provide the steps to create a custom Spectrum Model Type via Model Type Editor (MTE) tool.

Environment

Any Spectrum version

Resolution

As a best practice, always perform an SSDb OnLineBackup before making any changes to the Catalog database.

Here are the detailed steps:

1. Stop the SpectroSERVER application via SCP (Spectrum Control Panel). Ensure the SpectroSERVER is in Inactive state.

2. Launch the Model Type Editor.

3. Select the GnSNMPDev Model Type as a "template" to create the new Model Type called L+GyrRouter derived the from GnSNMPDev.

4. Locate the new Model Type that was created (L+GyrRouter) and then edit the SysOIDVerifyList attribute.

5. Click on the Edit button and add System Object ID of the new Model Type that was created (L+GyrRouter):

6. Then Edit the DeviceNameList attribute:

7. Click on the Edit button and add Device Name List of the new Model Type that was created (L+GyrRouter):

8. On the Flags tab, set the Flag as Instantiable.

9. Save the changes into the Catalog database.

10. Exit from the MTE.

11. Start the SpectroSERVER application.

12. Stop and Start the Spectrum Tomcat service.

13. Discover/Model the device.

Additional Information

NOTE: Starting the Model Type Editor (MTE) via that command line using the -logging parameter will create a an xml file that can then be used with the dbtool to import the MTE changes into another SpectroSERVER system.
