Issue/Introduction

The CA-7 online task CA7ONL schedules and submits jobs, picking them up from the JCL LIbraries defined in the INIT member by the JCL statement that is documented in the Configuration Guide.
These JCL Libraries can be PDS - PDSE - Librarian - Panvalet.

It can happen that CA7ONL abnormally ends with code U0402 , preceded by several System Abend code S0F4 as below reported:

and, even if restarted with TYPE=ERST, it abends several times in this same way, before it could correctly restart.
During this time, some jobs could have been scheduled and submitted with an invalid jobname where the first jobname character is changed in x'FF'.

In the above messages it is has been evidenced a problem managing a JCL library, used by CA7.

Environment

Z/OS - CA7 - PDSE

Resolution

The CA-7 subtask SASSBTMG handles several different things, and one of these is to do a BLDL for a JCL member as it is needed to be able to read JCL from a PDS or PDSE.
If the SASSBTMG subtask abends, then CA-7 will come down with a U0402 abend.
In all cases in which the problem has occurred, the abend S0F4 was in IBM code, processing a FIND for a member.
So it has been suggested customers to open a PMR with IBM in order to research why this kind of abend.

IBM investigated and found out that this problem can occur as result of a DEFRAG activity on volumes where PDSE data sets reside and they become corrupted by this activity because IGWNOTIF not always being issued post data movement.

To fix this bug IBM opened the new APAR OA55728, attached to this document.

The IBM PTFs for this bug are :

UA96803 for Z/OS 2.1
UA96809 for Z/OS 2.2
UA96789 for Z/OS 2.3
