Issue/Introduction

During MUF startup I am receiving message:

DB01922W - BEST PRACTICE SUGGESTION - 1) BREAK LT 50, TARGET 100-200

We are running V15.1 (active upgrade) in development. We carried forward our startup options from V14. The break options was set at 25 based on the DB system and Admin Guide - 'We therefore do not recommend using low numbers, such as 2 to 5. Picking a number in the range 15 to 25 is reasonable.'.

The Best Practices message is

DB01922W - BEST PRACTICE SUGGESTION - 1) BREAK LT 50, TARGET 100-200

The values suggested do not correspond to the paragraph in the Admin Guide. I will have to assume the best practices are correct, but the best practices suggestion 4 to 8 times higher than the Admin guide suggestion. I would request the Admin guide be updated to correspond to best practices suggested amounts to avoid confusion.

Environment

z/os, CA Datacom/DB 15.1

Resolution

"When that was built, machines were so much slower. Today I tell clients to max out the value to 500. I also been discussing allow this value to grow to 9999 in the future.

Due to how much faster the machines, SMP technology we have in the engine this is not near as critical today to have a smaller value. "

Additional Information

Documentation has been updated to change:

From “…Picking a number in the range 15 to 25 is reasonable.”    Release 14.0

To “…Picking a number in the range 100 to 200 is reasonable.”     Release 15.0 and above

This will allow consistency with DB02219W message (Best Practices suggestion).

Note that when installing new the BREAK value is 200.
