Issue/Introduction

Getting these errors intermittently:

XCOMM0282I RC 08 FDBK 90 ON HISTORY FILE GET   REQUEST
XCOMM0455E XCOM HAS ENCOUNTERED A CRITICAL ERROR ON DATASET XCOMHIST

Environment

Release: XCOM..01300-11.6-XCOM Data Transport-for AIX
Component:

Resolution

The AIXs (index files) for the XCOM history file are corrupt and you need to run XCOMUTIL to rebuild them.  The errors are intermittent most likely because not all of the index files are corrupt.

In the future, you should regularly tune your VSAM files and determine the correct size based on your usage. You should adjust your allocations to accommodate your expected INSERT activity against the history dataset and this will require regular review and housekeeping.

Many data centers regularly pull LISTCATs of important VSAM datasets and tune/reorg them as appropriate based on the LISTCAT information from the IDCAMS reports. Tuning this will be a process.
